Press release: MIS to expand US presence with support from the UK|CT Insurtech Corridor

McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), a leading global provider of intelligence-driven solutions for catastrophic event response, announces its acceptance into the prestigious UK|CT Insurtech Corridor. The move signifies a major step in MIS’ expansion strategy into the United States (US).

The InsurTech Corridor is a collaboration between the UK and Connecticut, two globally recognised hubs for insurance, for the purpose of designating a landing spot that allows UK Insurtechs to test their proof of concept and connect with the US insurance ecosystem more effectively.

Daniel Grimwood-Bird, SVP, Sales & Marketing at MIS, who leads the initiative for MIS, said: “The UK|CT Insurtech Corridor provides some incredible support to UK Insurtechs expanding to, and growing, in the US through critical business infrastructure, networking, and expertise.

We are, therefore, thrilled to be part of the UK|CT Insurtech Corridor, with its powerful ecosystem across North America for all perils. With Connecticut, being the ‘home of insurance’ in the US, it is also a natural place to build on our US expansion plans.”

With a focus on building stronger relationships and infrastructure within the US insurance ecosystem, MIS aims to enhance its ability to assist carriers, brokers, and TPAs in responding more effectively and efficiently to catastrophic events, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, hail, wildfires, and flooding.

Grimwood-Bird, added: "Looking ahead, MIS aims to continue to build on its presence in the US, which is a hugely significant target market for us with its substantial insurance economy and increasing frequency of catastrophic events, and contribute to the resilience of the insurance industry.”

Rytas Stankunas from the Department of Business and Trade in New York has supported MIS with the UK|CT Insurtech Corridor, as has Mike Hendy, Trade & Investment from the UK Department for Business, who said:

MIS already has a proven track-record of delivering valuable intelligence-driven solutions for catastrophic event response in the US market; we are delighted that they have become an excellent new addition to UK|CT Insurtech Corridor.

Susan Winkler, VP & Executive Director, CT Insurance & Financial Services, added: “Hartford, Connecticut’s insurance community, and its many stakeholders, stand united with a big welcome of support and partnership to our newest Corridor company, McKenzie Intelligence Services.”

In 2023 alone, MIS responded to 47 global events, with 28 occurring in the US, underscoring the company's commitment to the US market and to providing timely and effective support for insurers, brokers, and their clients during catastrophic events.

The InsurTech Corridor also provides companies across the US a clear route into the UK insurance ecosystem by way of Connecticut and forms a key part of the commercial pillar of the US-UK Financial Innovation Partnership.

About McKenzie Intelligence Services

McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS) provides immediate post event, multi-sourced data and the military grade intelligence that creates dynamic and three-dimensional loss information. Using its proprietary SaaS, geospatial platform, the Global Events Observer (GEO), MIS systematically tracks and responds to catastrophes. GEO hosts a vastly broad dataset, including satellite and drone imagery, radar, mobile phone, ground, and sensor data.

This raw data is vetted by trained and experienced former military intelligence analysts to ensure accuracy and then translated into something actionable, which means when clients receive the intelligence, they can rely upon it immediately rather than having to undertake additional work.

MIS empowers decision making in real time, vital in the immediate aftermath of a major event, whether from natural catastrophes or human-caused conflicts, all involving multi-peril coverage.
